Columbus Mom’s Blog Guide to June 2017

Have you made your summer bucket list yet? It’s first official month of summer and as always there is so much to do in Columbus! The warm weather is here to stay and so are the good times. Whether your kids are young or grown, there is so much to do this month!

June 1: Bash at the Barn: 6:30 p.m. at the Franklin Park Conservatory | Bash at the Barn is a night of great music, delicious food from top Columbus restaurants, signature cocktails, wines, and craft beers, all from local purveyors. 

June 1: Food Truck Thursday: 11 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. in Hilliard, Ohio | Each week two different food trucks will participate! 

June 1: Summer Concert Series: 7:00 p.m. -9:00 p.m. at the Shops on Lane Avenue | Enjoy the outdoors with live music, great shopping, amazing restaurants and family and friends! The Summer Concert Series features live entertainment that is always family-friendly. Bring a lawn chair!

June 2: Yoga on the Square: 8:30 a.m. at Easton Town Center | Designed for the first-timer and mainstream fitness fan, this introductory yoga class focuses on strength, conditioning, and flexibility. Led by Life Time Fitness instructors, it’s free and open to the public, ages 13 and older. This event runs every Friday this summer. 

June 2: Nature Discovery Hikes for Kids: 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. at Homestead Park | Look for signs of wildlife on a 1-mile hike around the pond and meadow. Meet at Barn Shelter.

June 2: Commons for Kids10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at The Columbus Commons |Friday morning focus is officially on the kids of Columbus.  Little people can give the carousel a whirl or hit the bounce-houses free of charge. They have something for every kind of tyke with the Imagination Playground, Art Box, and a mammoth chess board that would make the Red Queen jealous. If Mother Nature cooperates (when the temperature is 80 degrees or above), they will feature an inflatable water slide and kid’s swimsuits are welcome. Butler County will be there promoting their Donut Trail, have a Plinko Gameboard and be giving away free donuts.

June 2: Tuttle Mall Play Area Grand Opening10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. | Check out the new STEM based play area at Tuttle Mall and enjoy a face painter, balloon twister and retailer/vendor tables. Read more about the play area and see pictures here: Tuttle Mall Play Area

June 2- June 4: Newark Strawberry Festival: 11:00 a.m. on Friday until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday | Rides, games, crafts, and entertainment and don’t forget the strawberry shortcake eating contest! 

June 2: Worthington’s Children’s Concert on the Green: 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. | Don’t miss the Shazbots! 

June 2: Summer Reading Kickoff Party: 6:00 p.m. at Worthington Libraries | Sign up for The Artful Summer, and stay for face painting, crafts and visits with costumed characters.

June 2: Summer Glow Luau Skate Party: 7:00 p.m. at Skate Zone 71 | Spongebob and Patrick will be there and every admission receives a free glow stick too! 

June 3: Peach Truck Tour: 8:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. at various Columbus locations | The Peach Truck Tour travels through Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, and Pennsylvania! Georgia Peaches are available by the 1/2 Bushel (25 lb.) Box.

June 3: Mom2Mom Consignment Sale: 9:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. at Potter’s House Church of God | Annual Kids Consignment Sale 

June 3: Home Depot Kids Workshop Day: 9:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. | Join their hands-on workshop and you and your child can build a wooden tic-tac-toe game to play with family or friends almost anywhere.

June 3: Delaware County Touch A Truck: 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. in Marysville | Ambulances, firetrucks, helicopters, police cars, and so much more! Come join us for our free public event/demonstration.

June 3: WOSU Kids Launch Celebration: 10:00 a.m. at COSI | Celebrate the launch of WOSU Public Media’s new, free 24/7 children’s TV channel WOSU Kids. Get a photo with your favorite PBS KIDS character and play with new WOSU interactive exhibits!

June 3: Summer in the 614 Festival: 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on The Worthington Village Green | The Worthington Parks and Recreation Department has combined all things great about the Columbus area into one incredible evening. Sit on the grass and enjoy local musicians, family activities, games, food vendors and much more. Join them to soak up the sun and have some family fun! 

June 3: Butterfly Scavenger Hunt: 11:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. at Franklin Park Conservatory | Free with Admission. 

June 4: Peddler’s Picnic: 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. at The North Market | The outdoor market runs outside of the North Market from June- October. It showcases amazing vendors, vintage jewelry, and art. 

June 4: Made LOCAL Marketplace Summer Show: 12:00 p.m. at Polaris Fashion Place | Over 100 makers and admission is free. 

June 4: Kids Summer Scavenger Hunt: 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. at Homestead Park | Stop by the nature center to pick up a scavenger hunt. Find signs of animals that live here in the summer. Ages 3-10. Meet at Nature Center/Barn Shelter.

June 4: Concerts on the Green: 7:00 p.m.- 8:30 p.m. on Worthington Village Green | The Salty Carmels are set to perform (folksy music). Bring a blanket and enjoy the show. 

June 5: Lollipops Summer Children’s Concert Series: 10:30 a.m. at Village Park | The Lolli-Pops! Summer Children’s Concert is back! Grab your blankets and dancing shoes and get ready for a morning of fun music. These interactive concerts promise miles of smiles from kids and parents alike, so get ready for a toe-tappin’, rip-roarin’ good time!

June 5: Columbus Clippers Game:  7:05 p.m. at Huntington Park | Be sure to get out there and enjoy a game this season! 

June 6: HOOfit Walk the Zoo: 9:30 a.m.- 11:30 a.m. at The Columbus Zoo | Learn how you can stay healthy and the animals too! 

June 6: Carriage Rides: 6:00 p.m. at Easton Town Center | Enjoy a stroll through the North District for $10 per ride. 

June 7: IKEA grand opening!: Be the first to shop and be prepared for some traffic! 

June 7: Charity Happy Hour: 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at the Hills Market | Every Wednesday, May through October, they showcase a local charity and help them raise money for their organization.

June 7: Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers: 7:30 p.m. at The Schottenstein Center | Make it a date night! 

June 8: Cocktails and Canvas: 6:00 p.m. at Mitchell’s Berries LLC |Come paint on the farm. All supplies plus instruction are included w $30 reservation. Grab a friend, your favorite beverage, snacks and join us for art therapy on the farm. Complimentary berry treats.

June 8: Celebration at the Station: 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at Hilliard Station Park | Spend your Thursday evenings at HSP for our summer concert series sponsored by Credit Union of Ohio featuring live bands and food trucks!

June 9: Free Carnival Event Ohio Credit Union: 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. in Hilliard | We’re hosting a carnival event at our Hilliard branch for our members and the community! June 10: Family Farm Chores: 9:00 a.m. at Stratford Ecological Center | Come out with the family and experience a day on the farm! 

June 10: Zoo Event at Heritage Park: 10:00 a.m. in Grove City | Animals are presented one at a time while the animal handler speaks about the animal’s habitat, it’s status in the wild, conservation issues, and so much more.

June 10: Sing about Animals: 11:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. at Franklin Park Conservatory | Sing and dance along to songs about animals with folk musician Joanie Calem. 

June 10: Family Fun Day: 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at The Shops at Worthington Place | Free activities for this event include a face painter, bounce house, games & prizes.

June 10: PBJ & Jazz Festival: 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at The Topiary Park | A one-hour long family concert with jazz music featuring Byron Stripling & The Bobby Floyd Trio follows the 11 a.m. storytime at the Main Library.  Following the concert will be a hands-on art activity lead by the Columbus Museum of Art from 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. 

June 10: Dog Days of Dublin: 1:00 p.m. in Historic Dublin | Bring your canine friend to Historic Dublin for a day of dog-centered activities.

June 10: Wet and Wild: 2:00 p.m. at Worthington Pools | A day of hilarious, creative activities for the entire family. Plus, their special grill menu of hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, sides, and free drinks. Be prepared to grab your family and get involved in our unique land and water fun.

June 10-11: Buckeye Country SuperFest: 12:00 p.m. at Ohio Stadium | Zac Brown Band and Kenny Chesney to name a few! 

June 12: Ladies Night at the BARRE: 7:00 p.m. at Local Roots | Could be a great Mom’s Night out! Enjoy a workout and food and drinks afterward. 

June 12-16: Kids Art Camp: 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. at Carnival Ice Cream | $100 for the whole week of art camp. 

June 14: Find the Joy Magic Show: 7:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Old Worthington Library | Come experience the magic! 

June 16-June 18: Worthington Arts Festival: 6:00 p.m. on Friday and ends at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday in Downtown Worthington| Come celebrate 25 years and experience the beautiful artwork. 

June 16-18: Gahanna Creekside Blues and Jazz Festival: 5:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m. Friday, 11:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m. on Saturday, and 12:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. on Sunday | Celebrating 19 years of music! Lots of great activities for the kids and great food too! 

June 17: Animal Mosaic Craft: 11:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. at Franklin Park Conservatory | In a similar way that mosaics are made, topiaries are created using several little plants clustered together! Design your own paper mosaic in the shape of an endangered animal.

June 17: Silver Screen Under the Stars: 7:30 p.m.-9:00 p.m. at Hilliard Station Park | Join the Hilliard Recreation and Parks Department for a movie night featuring Ghostbusters.

June 18: Summer Concert Series: 7:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at Hilliard Pavilion| Enjoy the music on a Sunday night! 

June 18: Father’s Day Concert: 2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. at Franklin Park Conservatory | Bring your dad and celebrate Father’s Day with a selection of pop, folk, blues and original music by guitarist John Morgan. 

June 20: Little Adventurers/Busy Bees: 10:00 a.m.- 11:00 p.m. at Emily Traphagen Park | This is an informal outdoor program with the main goal of exploring and being comfortable in nature! Once a month throughout the summer, enjoy a themed morning in one of our parks. We may be getting messy with hands-on activities and art crafts, so come prepared! Free, ages 0-5, no reservations necessary. 

June 22: World’s Largest Swim Lesson: 10:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. at Zoombezi Bay | Come help them set a world record!

June 23-June 24: Powell Festival: 5:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m. at Village Green Park | Bands, Food, Kidszone, and fireworks! 

June 24: Pollinator Palooza: 11:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. at Franklin Park Conservatory | It’s a day to remember with the Bug Man.

June 24: Ohio Reptile Show: 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. at Franklin County Fairgrounds| Come out and see a variety of reptiles. 

June 24: Grandview Hop: 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. along Grandview Avenue between 1st and 5th | The street comes alive with live music, art, local shopping and fun activities.    

June 25: Summer Concert Series: 7:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at Hilliard Pavilion | Enjoy the music on a Sunday night! 

June 30: Ice Age Under the Stars: 8:00 p.m. at Deer Haven Park, Delaware | Feast your eyes on the outdoor movie, Ice Age: The Meltdown. Before the movie observe science experiments revealing insights into the how and why of the Ice Age. Staff will be making snow cones, too! Bring a lawn chair or blanket. Activities begin at 8:00 p.m. Movie begins at 9:30 p.m. Free, all ages. No reservations necessary
