Happy May! The daffodils are up and it’s finally starting to warm up! With a new season, comes new activities and many outdoor ones! Farmer’s Markets are starting up and Touch A Truck Events are rolling in! The end of the year is a busy time, but we hope you can squeeze in some of these great activities. Be sure to check back as activities are always being added. Be sure to check out our posts below on these great spring events too!

May 1-May 7

May 1- May 13: Annie: Thursdays and Fridays at 7:30 p.m.—Saturdays at 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.—Sundays at 3:00 p.m. | Don’t miss the multiple showings at the Columbus Children’s Theater. 2 act show with intermission. 

May 2,9,16, 23,30: Moms Coffee Break: 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. | Bring your little ones, and come be encouraged by other moms! Drink a coffee while it’s actually hot, let your little play in their annex and enjoy a puppet show of a Bible story. Then leave encouraged by a small devotional. It’s a laid-back format, designed with motherhood realities in mind! The puppet show happens around 10:30!

May 2: Wild Story Time: 10:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. at the Ohio Wildlife Center | Listen to a wildlife book with the theme of nature or animals. Visit with animal ambassadors, walk around the grounds and make a craft related to the story. $5 for adults and children 5 and under are free.

May 2,9,16,23,30: Uptown Westerville Farmer’s Market: 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. in Westerville | Each Wednesday, May through October. Fresh-picked. Fresh-baked. Home-grown.  All Ohio. With a season roster of 20-plus vendors, UWFM features organic, chemical-free and conventionally grown produce; a choice selection of artisan foods, meats, poultry and eggs; and flowers and plants. 

May 3: Music Therapy Music Group: 5:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Rock the Spectrum | Experience music therapy with Sprouting Melodies! Fun and growth through moving to music, playing instruments and singing! The music activities are designed to: facilitate social bonding, support growth and development, teach life skill concepts, enhance communication skills, reinforce motor skills, encourage music exploration and is adaptable in the moment to meet the needs of the participants.

May 3: Painting with Wild Animals: 6:00- 9:00 p.m. at McConnell Arts Center | Each person gets to take home a 4 by 6 canvas made by animals walking or crawling across the canvas.  

May 4: Toddler Time at Westerville Recreation Center: 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. | This program will encourage social interaction, arts, and crafts and equipment for gross motor and fine motor skills. $3 drop in rate and registration is not required. 

May 4: Powell Touch a Truck11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. | Enjoy a day of climbing, pretending, and touching different trucks at Adventure Park. There will be over a dozen vehicles at the park for your kiddos to explore and learn about! 

May 4: May the 4th Be With You!: 4:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. at The Old Worthington Library | Princesses and scruffy-looking nerf herders are invited to celebrate this unofficial Star Wars Day with games and more! For ages 6-11.

May 4: COSI after Dark: 6:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. | It’s COSI without kids! Geek out with grown-ups and explore COSI, enjoy special themed activities, and a cash bar. May’s theme is May the 4th Be With You.

May 4: Zoo Night at Huntington Park with the Columbus Clippers: 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. | Come out for a family night of fun with Jack Hannah and his Zoo friends at the baseball game! 

May 4: Paddleboard Yoga: 7:30- 8:30 p.m. at The Worthington Pool | Come try a new kind of workout! 

May 4-5: Ohio Made Market: Friday 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. | Get unique shopping done at the Hollywood Casino! 

May 4,5,6,11,12,13: The Throne of Oz: Fridays 7:30 p.m., Saturdays 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., Sundays 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. | Join a young boy named Tip as he travels throughout the lands of Oz and meets his old friends the Scarecrow and Tin Woodman,  as they thwart the wicked plans of an evil witch and overcome a rebellion.

May 4-6: Dorothy and the Prince of Oz: Friday at 8:00 p.m., Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at The Ohio Theater | Journey with Dorothy, Glinda and Scarecrow as they make their heroic return to save the land of Oz. Racing against the clock, Dorothy must rescue the Prince from warring kingdoms before tragedy strikes. 

May 5- June 24th: Live Butterflies at Polaris Mall: Monday through Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. and Sunday 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Polaris Fashion Place | $5 exhibit to take a tour as the Conservatory comes to Polaris Mall! You will get to feed a butterfly, free craft, and learn all about caterpillars! 

May 5,12,19,26: Worthington Farmer’s Market: 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.Come out and celebrate the 31st anniversary of this wonderful farmer’s market! Back outside! 

May 5: Green on the Green: 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. | Come to Worthington for the 8th annual Green on the Green Event that highlights green and healthy alternatives to everyday living. 

May 5: Home Depot Build a Windmill Planter: 9:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. | Join the hands-on workshop where you and your child can build a flower pot to hold spring flowers to keep or give to Mom. All kids get to keep their project, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.

May 5: Community Celebration of the McCoy Center : 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at The McCoy Center | Free screening of Disney’s MOANA at 10:00 a.m. followed by a variety of performances from the New Albany School District. Inflatables, children’s activities, balloon artists, face painting and more to celebrate their 10 year anniversary!

May 5: Family Fun Day: 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at The Shops at Worthington Place | Bring the family to The Shops at Worthington Place for a day of FREE family fun! Bounce House, Balloon Twisting, Fire Trucks, and Music and much more!

May 5: Columbus Margarita Fest: 12:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. | Food Trucks, Live Music, and margaritas! Get your tickets soon! 

May 5: Music Inspired by Nature: 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Franklin Park Conservatory | This orchestra performance is fun for everyone! Kids and families will enjoy lively music inspired by the natural world by Ohio Capital Winds. The performance begins at 2pm.

May 5-May 6: Central Ohio Music Festival: 5:00 p.m. at High Banks Metro Park | Numerous concerts both days! This is a showcase of Young Musicians, dance instruction, and participation Free daytime tickets and activities for kids, but evening tickets are $20. 

May 5: Mother-Son Ninja Night: 5:30 p.m. at Gahanna YMCA | Mother and Son team up for an epic night of ninjas and nerf challenges. Dress as ninjas for this action-packed night of fun. $25/pair, $5/additional child. Ages 3-11. 

May 5: Cinco de Mayo Glow Run: 8:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. at Gahanna Creekside | Enjoy Creekside Park with Gahanna Parks & Recreation for the Cinco De Mayo Glow Run for an evening of fun, exercise, music, and laughs.

May 6: Powell Street Market9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.| Various vendors and food trucks line the streets of Downtown Powell.

May 6: Parent and Child Cake Decorating: 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. at Our Cupcakery | Just in time for Mother’s Day, spend one-on-one time with a youngster (6 years old and older) for their cake decorating class. This hands-on class will use tools and techniques for baking. You’ll learn the ins and outs of assembling, filling, icing, and decorating cakes and take home your own decorated 8″ cake.

May 6: New Albany Orchestra: 3:00 p.m. at McCoy Center in New Albany | Celebrate the 10th anniversary with special guest Michael Feinstein.  

May 6: Cinco de Mayo Pool Fiesta: 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. | Raffle prizes, music, a special guest and food from the grill. Come out and celebrate!  

May 7: Splash Pad Opening: 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. at Hilliard’s Station Park | This splash pad opens in May and is a great spot for the kids to cool off. Here’s a list of Splash Pads in Columbus you’ll want to check out. The Worthington Lagoon opens at the beginning of May as well from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and is free for 2017 members and $1 for everyone else through May 24th! After that, it is a regular daily rate. The Lagoon splash pad reopens for the reduced rate after the pool season is over from September 4 – Mid-October and is weather dependent. Did we think we would ever make it to splash pad season?!

May 7: Sips, Succulents, and Shops: 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Thread in Grandview | During this succulent workshop, you’ll learn everything you need to know to keep these desert darlings alive and happy. They will teach you how to care for these plants, when to water them, and how to propagate leaves all while creating your own eye-popping succulent container garden.

May 7: Justin Timberlake: 7:30 p.m. at Nationwide Arena | Need we say more? Get your tickets today! 

May 8- May 15 

May 8: HooFit Walk the Zoo: 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at The Columbus Zoo | Come walk the zoo with an animal expert and learn how you can stay healthy and how animals can too. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. 

May 8: Story time on the Farm : 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. at Stratford Ecological Center | Join other families on the farm for a fun and educational hour of storytelling and a unique hands-on experience based on the seasonal happenings around the farm.  Families are invited to pack a picnic to enjoy after the story hour. No registration required – $5 per family.

May 10-13: All American Youth Horse Show: 8:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. at the Ohio Expo Center | The 50th Annual All American Youth Horse Show will feature riding styles including Western, contest, reining, trail, hunters and jumpers.

May 11: Hilliard Mini Touch a Truck: 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Hilliard Station Park | Come see some of your kiddos favorite trucks! 

May 11: Celebrating YOU: 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at The Spa at River Ridge | Join in for the 3rd Annual Celebrating You, where they will celebrate motherhood with moms from all over Columbus. This year we will have FREE mini spa services (must sign up ahead of time), vision board workshops, swag bags, shopping, and SO much more. 

May 11: PJ Masks Live: 6:00 p.m. at The Palace Theater | Tickets start at $30- get your seat today! 

May 11: Arts in Uptown: 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. in Uptown Westerville | Stroll the streets for various art stations that are set up.

May 12: Change Columbus 5k Run : 9:30 a.m. | Join other Columbus families for this great cause for families in need of diapers. Family fun run, kids run, and 5k! 

May 12: Pickerington Touch A Truck: 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. | Bring your kids to enjoy a variety of big trucks, cars, engines and more.  You will be able to get up close to check out the big tires, ask questions about what each vehicle does, test the driver’s seat and even get your own driver’s license.

May 12: Celebrate Mom at the Franklin Park Conservatory: 11:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. | Make a flower pot for mom for Mother’s Day! 

May 12: Canal Winchester Art Stroll: 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Canal Winchester Art Guild | Stroll around Historic Canal Winchester to artist’s studios and display areas, enjoy music and entertainment, vote for new murals at the Art Competition, view student art, dine in local restaurants and purchase original art! 

May 13 Mother’s Day Celebration at the Zoo9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Columbus Zoo | Looking for the perfect gift for mom? Bring her to the zoo! All moms and grandmothers get in free with a paid child’s admission. 

May 13: Moments with Mom: 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. at Emily Traphagen Park in Powell | Bring the family to enjoy activities that celebrate all Moms! Take a walk along the memory lane nature trail, create a Mother’s Day gift, plant a tree, and enjoy a picnic snack with Mom.

May 13: Family Fun with the Columbus Zoo at Franklin Park Conservatory: 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at FPC | Come see a family friendly presentation with a different animal each month. Included with admission. 

May 16-May 23

May 18: Touch a Truck Worthington: 9:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at The Worthington Community Center | The 7th Annual Touch a Truck is a unique and interactive event that allows children to see, touch, and safely explore their favorite big trucks and heavy machinery, as well as to meet the personnel who protect, serve, and build the Worthington community. Bring a non-perishable item to help stuff the truck for the Worthington Food Pantry! 

May 18: Franklin Park Conservatory Garden Grand Opening: 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. | Members only event! 16 multi-sensory and artistic garden galleries, along with fun, hands-on family programs for kids of all ages. Local Columbus food trucks will be available throughout the day for members to purchase lunch or dinner.

May 18: Family Fishing Day Westerville: 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. | Come out to Everal Barn for their annual Family Fishing Day! Limited poles are available, please bring your own poles if you have them. They will provide all of the bait. You do not need a license to fish here. Children 10 and under must have a parent accompany them. $5 per person fishing. 

May 19: Komen Columbus Race for the Cure: 7:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. | Be a part of the sea of pink as they celebrate 26 years! 

May 19-20: All Aboard for Railroad Fun: 10:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and Noon to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at Trailhouse at Sandel Legacy Trail in Sunbury | Visitors can watch the trains while they learn about railroading and the development of the railroad industry in America. The Display, which is in HO scale, includes the trains and a miniature landscaped village and surrounding countryside.

May 19: Grove City Touch a Truck10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at Grove City UMC | A variety of vehicles to learn about and explore.  Don’t miss this fun event!

May 19: National Kids to Parks Day: 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. | Free for all ages- come for the wetland workshop to explore and dress to get wet! 

May 19 and 20: New Albany Ballet CinderellaVarious Showtimes at McCoy Center | Come see this timeless tale put on by the New Albany Ballet! 

May 19-20: Delaware Arts Festival: 11:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. on Saturday and 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. on Sunday| This two-day event features over 180 booths! The event includes food, entertainment, and many children’s activities! 

May 19: Praire Township Touch a Truck: Noon-2:00 p.m. at the Praire Township Community Center | Come out to the Prairie Township Community Center and climb around in some of the vehicles that help keep the Township safe and running smooth.

May 19: Water Safety Event4:00-6:00 p.m. at Goldfish Swim School- Dublin and Goldfish Swim School-Westerville | This is a FREE Event open to the public! They will have water safety clinics, entertainment, refreshments and visits from community helpers.  There will be water safety centers set up in the swimming pool for children to participate in, so please be sure to bring a swimsuit and towel if your child would like to practice new water safety skills!

May 20: Girls on the Run: 8:00 a.m. at the Columbus Commons | Join in the fun for a run that celebrates girls! There is also a kiddie fun run for kids 7 and younger.  Pre-activities start at 8, and the race starts at 9:30 a.m. 

May 20: EMS Day at COSI: 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at COSI  | Get a first-hand look at the operations of local police officers, firefighters, and other first responders. Take a seat inside a cruiser, or watch while the Columbus Fire Department uses the Jaws of Life during a mock crash.

May 20: Strawberry Fairy Tea Party: 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. at Mitchell’s Berries LLC | Join the Berry Fairy for a Garden Tea Party on the farm. This event targets little girls and their favorite “big” girls. You’ll enjoy a manners lesson, a tale with Miss Spider and treats from the farm. 

May 20: Concerts on the Green: 7:00 p.m. | These family-friendly concerts are FREE for everyone. All performances are held on the Northwest Quadrant of the Village Green in Worthington. 

May 24-May 31 

May 25: The Columbus Zoo Concert Series: 5:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. | Featuring The Charlies Daniels Band! Get your tickets today! 

May 26: Sunrise Yoga and Berries: 7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. at Mitchell’s Berries | Grab your yoga mat and enjoy sunrise yoga on the farm. Brenda Rock will lead us in a relaxing 45 minutes of mind, body and spirit. Each Yogi will receive a quart to pick their own fresh strawberries. We will begin promptly at 7:30. YMCA members $5 Non-members

May 26: Peonies! Farm Pick Up Season Opener: 8:00 a.m at Red Twig Farm  | Make your own peony bouquet and meet the Red Twig Farms team. A variety of colors are available. 

May 26-May 28: Utica Ice Cream Festival: 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.| Join Velvet Ice Cream each day over Memorial Day weekend in Utica, Ohio. There’s fun for the whole family, including contests for kids, ice cream eating contests, over 90 local artisans, pony rides, classic car show along with live entertainment. You won’t want to miss this! $5 per car.

May 26: Sunrise Sanctuary Spring Fling: 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. in Marysville, Ohio | One of the largest celebrations of the year, they can’t wait to welcome you to the farm. Enjoy food, fun, and friends where the animals come first.  ($10 for adults/$5 for children) Must pre-register.

May 26: Family Fun Day at The Columbus Commons: 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. | Bring the whole family will be able to bounce and play, make some crafts, get your face painted, kick some soccer balls, ride on the carousel and so much more. The event is free to attend; a $5 wristband will get you access to all of the inflatables. Stick around for a free movie afterwards – sing along to “The Greatest Showman” starting at 8:15!

May 27: All Ohio Reptile Show: 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. at Franklin County Fairgrounds | Come out and see all your reptile friends! 

May 27: Concerts on The Green: 7:00 p.m. | Come enjoy a different band each week! These concerts are FREE for everyone. 

May 28: City of Powell Memorial Day Parade: 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.| The parade features more than 60 units! 

May 28: City of Worthington Memorial Day Parade: 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. | The parade begins on East Dublin-Granville Road. 

May 28-June 3: Memorial Tournament: The tournament is a major PGA Tour event that features the best golfers in the world. Get your tickets and enjoy! 

May 31: Aladdin Westerville: 7:00 p.m. at Alum Creek Amphitheater | Westerville Parks and Recreation Civic Theatre is pleased to announce it’s second outdoor youth musical, Disney’s Aladdin Jr.

May 31: Grandview Chocolate Walk: 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Grandview Heights Public Library Enjoy a walking tour of Grandview Heights with chocolate stops at participating businesses, to benefit the GHPL Foundation’s Endowment Fund. Tickets are limited and $25.

Maureen Ingham
Maureen Ingham has enjoyed living in the great city of Columbus for nearly 13 years! Originally from Canton, Ohio, Maureen attended Ohio University and will always be a bobcat at heart! After completing her education degree in Athens, she made her way to The Ohio State University to obtain a Masters degree in Special Education. She fell in love with Columbus then and convinced her now husband to join her in this awesome city! She taught 5th grade for 6 years, before deciding to stay home to raise two beautiful girls. Their family has recently moved to Worthington with their two girls and are excited to plant their roots here! Their first daughter, Maeve is 6 and her sister, Reese will soon be 5 years old. They welcomed a son, Miles in March 2020. Maureen has been with The Columbus Moms Blog since the beginning and now enjoys working on editing and events for the blog. She also works as a Postpartum Doula with her sister at a company called Together Wee Grow. They provide night nursing services, as well as daytime support to local families and babies in Columbus. It is a wonderful job to work along her sister and help families with their precious little ones in a vulnerable time period. In between the night shifts, sweeping up crumbs, exploring Columbus, and getting kids to where they need to be, Maureen enjoys working out, trying new recipes and restaurants, traveling, spending time with family, being crafty and trying to help others whenever she can! Maureen has many Columbus favorites. Her go-to restaurant is Third and Hollywood, she enjoys a sweet treat at Sassafrass Bakery or Fox in the Snow, a slice of pizza at Dewey's Pizza and a warm cup of joe at Highline Coffee. A perfect Saturday involves an outdoor activity with her family and trying a new restaurant when they can! She is excited to be a part of an excellent team here at Columbus Moms blog and hopes to be able to inspire mothers that small acts of kindness go a long way in raising their kids and the city they live in!
