Columbus Moms Blog to the Month of April 2018

This winter has been brutal! Who is ready for spring and warmer temperatures?! We’ve gathered some of the best activities going on in Columbus for the month of April! It’s a big month with lots of spring activities.

As we find additional events we will update the list, so be sure to check back throughout the month.  If we missed something, comment below. Let’s hope for a month of sunshine!

April 1- April 7

April 1-22: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe: Thursdays and Fridays at 7:30 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays at 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.| Watch the cast of Columbus Children’s Theatre during this one-act play with no intermission.  Recommended for ages 6 and older.

April 1: Easter Sunday Skate: 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Skate Zone 71 | Meet and greet your favorite characters during this fun skating session. Price is $10 and includes 1 slice of pizza, rental, admission! 

April 2-April 6: Open Play at Easter Seals Central and Southeast Ohio: 9:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. | Come over your spring break to play at The Easterseals awesome indoor gym! $5 to play in their gym which has a rock climbing wall, ball pit, slides, tire swing and much more! 

April 2- April 8: FREE Petting Zoo: 9:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at The Olentangy Caverns | The animals have missed you! Come out and visit over Spring Break and see the animals, play on the playground, enjoy yard games and gem mining if weather permits! 

April 2- April 8: COSI Spring Break Hours: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. | Open on Mondays and Tuesdays during Spring Break!  

April 3: Spring Break Carnival Skate: 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Skate Zone 71 | Balloon Twisting, Face Painting, Skating, and fun! 

April 3: Columbus Clippers Meet-the-Team Party: 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at Columbus Funny Bone Comedy Club | The Meet-the-Team Party starts at 6:00pm with a ballpark-themed buffet for all in attendance. A formal introduction of the squad will follow as well as an informal meet and greet and autograph session. The night wraps up with a family-friendly comedy show by comedian and magician Michael Kent. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door (space permitting).

April 3: Fantastic Mr. Fox: 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at Gateway Film Center | On behalf of Wes Anderson’s upcoming film, ISLE OF DOGS, see a complimentary screening of FANTASTIC MR. FOX. Everyone attending will receive a complimentary pass to see ISLE OF DOGS the following night, Wednesday, 4/4.

April 3: Edible Books: 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at Northwest Library | Edible creations must have a literary theme with this 10th annual contest! Get creative with your submission. 🙂 

April 4: Mom’s Coffee Break: 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at Coffee Connections | Drink your coffee while it’s still hot, let your little one play in the annex and enjoy a puppet show of a Bible story. 

April 4: Wild Story Time: 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at The Wildlife Center | Meet the animal ambassador, read a book, and enjoy a craft that goes with the theme for that day. 

April 5: COSI After Dark: 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. at COSI | Come to Cosi without your kids for a themed night of Wild Wild West Broad.

April 6: Toddler Time at Westerville Community Center: 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. | A morning of fun and play for kids kindergarten and under. $3 per child for the drop in rate! 

April 6: Kid Paint Free Days: 12:00 p.m.  – 9:00 p.m. at Clay Cafe | Through the months of March and April, kids paint free EVERY Friday! You only need to pay for the price of their piece. 

April 6: Friday Movies at Grandview Heights Public Library: 3:15 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. | Come enjoy an afternoon movie after school on Friday! 

April 6: Mother & Son Adventure Night: 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. hosted by Prairie Township | This event is geared towards age 3-12.  Purchase tickets in advance here: Prairie Township

April 6: Vernal Pool Monitoring: 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Stratford Ecological Center | Put on your mud boots and grab your flashlight while looking for salamanders, frogs and egg masses. $5 per family. 

April 6: Spring-O: April First Friday in Downtown Delaware | Stop by the Main Street office (20 E. Winter St.) and pick up your Spring-o card. Collect stamps from local businesses to be entered to win prizes.

April 7: Lady Tutu 5k and Little Princess Dash: 8:00 a.m. (registration) at Easton | A social, fitness event dedicated to celebrating young girls and women with a 5k run/walk. Grab your tutu! 

April 7: Kiddie Konsignment Sale: 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Grace Polaris Church | Come shop at this huge children’s consignment sale with half off from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. 

April 7: Zassy and Friends Spring Show: 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Via Vecchia Winery | Handmade goods, vintage finds, farmhouse home decor, cocktails, wine and much more! 

April 7: Build a Window Birdhouse: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Home Depot | Build a birdhouse, paint it and decorate with stickers.  Register for FREE

April 7: Breakfast with Belle: 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at Westerville Central | Children ages 2 -12 will enjoy crafts, a pancake breakfast and photos with Belle.  Each child will receive a take home goody bag.  Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 ages 2 -12 and under 2 are free.  Reservations required by Wednesday, April 4th.  Children must be accompanied by an adult. 

April 7: Soap Box Derby: 10:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. at Big Run Park in Columbus, OH | The Soap Box Derby is a youth racing program open to any child at least 7 years of age. Children compete by driving their racers in one of three levels of gravity-powered racing cars built from kits purchased from the All-American Soap Box Derby.

April 7: New Albany SpringFest: 10:30 a.m. -1:30 p.m. at The New Albany High School Stadium | Come join the community for the annual New Albany egg hunt at the New Albany football stadium. There will be over 60,000 eggs, helicopter egg drop, music, face painting, bounce houses, characters, games, special prizes, food trucks, and much more.

April 7: Family Fun with Chris Rowlands at The Franklin Park Conservatory | 11:00 and 2:00 p.m. at FPC | Nature Educator presents his puppets and songs about animals in the natural environment. 

April 7: Fairy Door Workshop: 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Grandview Heights Public Library | Supplies will be provided but you may also bring your own for a little extra sparkle! Registration is required. Finished doors will be hidden all over the library for you to discover! 

April 7: Nature Walk: 2:00 p.m.- 3:00 p.m. at Blacklick Woods Metro Park | Come see the changes spring can bring! 

April 7: Short Nort Gallery Hop: 4:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. | The first Saturday of every month is the much anticipated Gallery Hop. Businesses stay open later, there’s lots of art and exhibits to look at, as well as food and drinks.

April 7: Jay Leno: 8:00 p.m. at the Palace Theatre | The famous stand-up comedian will be on stage sharing his humor with a live audience.

April 8- April 15

April 8: FlapJack 5K and Pancake Breakfast: 8:30 a.m. at the Golf Club of Dublin | Walkers and runners will tour through the golf course and enjoy a pancake breakfast at the end. Even if you aren’t walking/running, you can still show up and purchase breakfast. Funds go to cancer research and patient care programs.  

April 8: Toddler Time at Get Air: 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at Get Air| Little jumpers and their parents are the only ones on the trampoline during this time. 

April 8: Autism Awareness Day at COSI: 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at COSI | Explore specifically developed activities for families and their children in Gallery 2.

April 8: 2nd Sunday: 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Ohio Wildlife Center | Explore the center and see various animals. $5 per person, children 5 and under free.

April 8: Family Fun with the Columbus Zoo: 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at The Franklin Park Conservatory | Family friendly presentations with a variety of animals! 

April 8: April Pools Day: 5:30 p.m. -7:30 p.m. at Westerville Community Center | Come join in the fun of family swimming, obstacle course, climbing wall and gym open during select hours. No joke! Fun for the whole family.

April 11-13: Sesame Street Live: various times at the Palace Theatre | Have fun moving and grooving to the beat with the Sesame Street characters. Tickets start at $15. 

April 11-14Three Bags Full: various times at Franklin County Fairgrounds | A consignment sale with great deals. Learn more here: Saving Money Locally

April 11-14: The Sound of Music: various times at Dublin Coffman High School

April 12: Go Fly a Kite: 10:00 a.m. at Glacier Ridge Metro Park | Celebrate National Kite Month by flying your kite with them! You can make a kite to take home too!

April 12: Jack & the Beanstalk Performance: 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 pm. at the Columbus Metropolitan Main Library | Opera Columbus performs a modern version of this classic fairytale featuring Jack, his magic beans and the Giant. School & daycare groups welcome! Seating begins at 10:30 a.m. in the Main Library’s 2nd floor Reading Room; performance begins at 11 a.m.

April 12: Taste of Clintonville: 5:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. at Mozart’s in Clintonville | Get a taste of what makes Clintonville so special. Hosted by Experience Clintonville, this popular annual event showcases the best of Clintonville’s culinary treasures, from the newest hotspots to their beloved neighborhood institutions.

April 12: Family Food Truck Festival: 5:30 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. at Northwest Library, Worthington, Ohio | Take the family to the library to enjoy family story time, followed by dinner from Street Thyme Truck or Timmy’s Meltdown truck.  

April 12-15: Cirque Du Soleil: Various showtimes at Schottenstein Center | Get your tickets today!

April 12-15: Little Shop of Horrors: various times at Pickerington Central High School

April 12-15Seussical: various times at Jonathon Alder High School 

April 13-15: Grease: 7:00 p.m. (April 13 & April 14), 2:00 p.m. (April 15) at Hilliard Davidson High School | Purchase tickets at the door or in advance.

April 14: Children’s Business Fair: 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 am.  at Coffee Connections | Kids create a product or service, develop a brand, build a marketing strategy.

April 14: Family Farm Chores: Stratford Farm: 10:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. | Bring your little ones down to the farm for story time and a hands-on experience at the farm. They suggest bringing a picnic lunch for afterward too!

April 14: Worthington Indoor Farmers Market: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at The Shops at Worthington Place | Come enjoy the market inside for a few more weeks until opening day the first weekend of May. 

April 14: Spring Morning Cartoons: 10:00 a.m. at Gateway Film Center | It’s the coolest retro morning in the nation! It’s Saturday Morning Cartoons at GFC. For $5 (which includes your first personal-size cereal and a pour from our milk bar), flip through the channels with us as we watch the best, funniest, most beloved and occasionally totally weird morning toons.

April 14: Ohioana Book Festival: 10:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Sheraton Columbus Hotel | This FREE event will feature more than 100 authors. Check a list of the kids and teens activities at the 2018 festival. 

April 14: Tulips and Tutus: 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at The Franklin Park Conservatory | Wear your tutu and dance along as you learn basic ballet steps! 

April 14: OSU Spring Game: 1:45 p.m. at Ohio Stadium | Watch the Buckeye Football Team play against each other in the stadium. Purchase $5 tickets in advance. 

April 15: Enchanted Princess Brunch: 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. at Delaware Golf Club | Your child will enjoy meeting all the princesses and the royal treatment!  Tickets are $42 per child.

April 15: Sunday Family Fun Day: 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at The Draft Room | Free crafts for kids, brunch from Broke Johnny food truck and beer specials for the adults.

April 15: A Tale of Virtues: 3:00 p.m. at Abbey Theater | $7 for adults and $5 for children. Each story’s characters and props emerge from a salesman’s containers to act out a series of stories that demonstrate courage, perseverance, politeness and tolerance. After all is said and done, the salesman realizes that what he sells can’t be bought.

April 15: Olentangy Watershed Cleanup: 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. in Delaware | This event is through Seeds of Caring and will discuss the importance of taking care of our waterways. Kids and parents will then partake in a park clean-up to teach kids about the importance of caring for our Earth. 

April 15Darci Lynne: 7:00 p.m. at the Palace Theatre | Ventriloquist Darci Lynne brings her breathtaking, one of kind, family-friendly show to the Palace Theatre. Darci won the hearts of America with her undeniable talent and AGT win. The multitalented thirteen-year-old and her friends Petunia, the divaesque rabbit, Oscar, the shy and soulful mouse and Edna, the brash old woman, sold out their first headlining show in just six minutes. April 18: Preschool Farm Friends: Happy Hens: 10:00 a.m. at Gallant Farm | Explore the life of a chicken and meet the flock! Ages 4 and 5 with an adult. Free; registration required by April 11

April 18: Celtic Woman: 7:00 p.m. at Palace Theatre

April 19-22: William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar: various times at Mershad Hall (performed by the students of New Albany High School)  *also April 26-29

April 20: Earth Day Recycling Drive: 8:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. at Integrated Building Systems | Drop off your old, unwanted, and broken electronics and they will recycle it for you! A great way to teach your kids about recycling too! 

April 20: Free Stroller Barre Preview Event: 9:15 a.m. at Athleta | Be one of the 15 Mommas to attend a FREE Stroller Barre preview event before this class gets added to the weekly schedule. After class at Athleta and receive a free gift bag, raffle prizes, snacks and refreshments

April 20-22 and April 27-28: Alice and Wonderland: Various times at Hilliard Civic and Cultural Center | Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children. 

April 20: Family Friday Science: 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Westerville Community Center | Join us for some science fun at the Community Center! Play with slime, make yummy models of our DNA and generally run a muck as you learn and play with science.

April 20: All Things Brunch Festival: 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at Valley Dale Ballroom | Jam packed event with food samples, live entertainment and cocktail menu. The event will raise funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters and Camp Oty’okwa!

April 21: POP UP! Spring Clothing and Equipment Sale hosted by The Columbus Mothers of Twins Club: 8:00 a.m. – 11 a.m. at Resolute Athletic Complex | Purchase baby and maternity items at a reduced cost.

April 21All Ohio Reptile Show: 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Franklin County Fairgrounds | Admission is $5 and kids 10 and under are $1.

April 21: Party for the Planet: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at The Columbus Zoo | Come celebrate all Mother Nature has given us!

April 21: Llama & Sheep Shearing Day: 10:00 a.m. at Stratford Ecological Center | Your family can visit stations to learn how wool is processed, participate in hands-on fiber projects, visit the barn, and walk the farm. 

April 21: All aboard For Railroad Fun: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Sandel Legacy Trail | Watch the model train go through a mini village and take time to talk to the club Model Railroaders who can share their knowledge about railroading in America.

April 21: Soaring Bird Kite: 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Franklin Park Conservatory | Decorate a mini bird kite to fly around the gardens.

April 21-22: Monster Jam: Showtimes are 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on April 21 and 1:00 p.m. on April 22 at The Schottenstein Center | The most action-packed live event on four wheels for your kids to see drivers compete! Tickets start at $15. 

April 21: Healthy Kids Day: Various times at numerous YMCA’s over Central Ohio | Some activities include face painting, gymnastics, animals, photo booths, and much more! See their website for more information.    

April 21: Columbus Crew Game: 7:30 p.m. at MAPFRE Stadium | Come out and have a family night with the Crew!   

April 22: Earth Day Celebration: Cruddy Creek: 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park | Have fun at the living stream and learn ways you can help the environment! 

April 22: Spring Opening at the Orange Johnson House: 2:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m., Worthington, Ohio | Goats, lambs, chickens, ducks, turkeys, and rabbits and a new friend this year! His name is Wilbur, the pig and he will also visit the Johnson House. The cost for this event is $5 for adults and $3 for children aged 3-16. This is a unique way for the farm to come to you! 

April 22: The Royal Feast: 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. | Columbus Children’s Theater Gala that joins with the Columbus Zoo and includes an enchanted evening with delicious food, cocktails, dancing, silent auction, amazing animals and more! 

April 24- April 30

April 24-29: The King and I: various times at the Ohio Theatre | This musical has been a Broadway sensation and is the winner of 4 Tony Awards.

April 26- May 13: Annie: Thursdays and Fridays at 7:30 p.m., Saturdays at 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. and Sundays at 3:00 p.m. at The Lincoln Theater | This classic tale is a 2 act musical with one intermission and recommended for ages 6 and up.

April 26-29: A Chorus Line: various times at Pickerington North High School 

April 26-29: William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar: various times at Mershad Hall (performed by the students of New Albany High School) * Also April 19-22 

April 27: Beer and Ballet: 5:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. at The Ballet Met Campus | This a free event for all ages and is sure to be an evening full of fun and dance along with happy hour-priced craft beer from Platform Beer Co. This event will also have Columbus food trucks and free popcorn! An event you will want to attend.

April 27: 4th Friday: 6:00 p.m. in Westerville | This is great fun for the family. Check out all the details here: What are 4th Fridays?

April 27-29: Beauty and the Beast: 7:30 p.m. (April 27 & April 28), 1:30 p.m. (April 29) at Westerville Central High School | Tickets are $10.

April 27-29: The Secret Garden: various times at Hilliard Darby High School

April 27-29Vintage Market Days: various times at Franklin County Fairgrounds |  An upscale vintage-inspired indoor/outdoor market featuring original art, antiques, clothing, jewelry, handmade treasures, home decor, outdoor furnishings, consumable yummies, seasonal plantings and a little more.

April 27-29: Monty Phyton’s Spamalot School Edition: various times at Dublin Scioto High School 

April 28: Tree Cookie Necklaces: 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Franklin Park Conservatory | Celebrate Arbor Day and learn how trees grow. Use a tree cookie, a cross-section of a tree limb to make a pendant necklace. 

April 28: Romancing the Grape: 6:00 p.m. at Ohio Stadium | Central Ohio’s premier wine tasting benefiting Easter Seals Central and Southeast Ohio. You will sip on wine and enjoy the view of the Ohio Stadium along with delights from Columbus’s finest restaurants, silent auctions, and entertainment. 

April 28Hoot Family Film Series: 10:00 a.m. at Gateway Film Center | The last Saturday of every month is the Hoot Family Film Series.  There are opportunities to make crafts, sing, listen to live music performed by the Shazzbots and see short films from around the world. FREE with a suggested donation of canned food to benefit The Open Shelter. 

April 28: 31st Annual Duckling Day at Whetstone Library: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. | Starting at 10:30 a.m. is the parade at the library.  Then, see live ducks, watch a puppet show and participate in duck related literacy activities.    

April 29: March for Babies: Registration begins at 9:00 with the race at 10:00 a.m. at COSI | The lifeline of money raised will be for mamas and babies and to aid in research, programs, and education. 

April 29Give My Regards: A salute to Broadway. Free with a good-will offering.
