Exploring Art and Fun Around the City

0

We love all experiences for our kids. Never would I have guessed that my girls would enjoy looking at and talking about art. I have exposed them to it at a young age, which I’m sure has helped. My middle loves Creative Galaxy (teaches pointillism and abstract art, food as art and more) which spurred her love for art.

I thought I would share a few great places to enjoy a little bit of art with other experiences. Two of them were both found by accident, which made it even more fun. I hope you enjoy them too!

Columbus Main Library

We love the main Columbus library downtown. The building itself is a work of art. I like feeling small in such a big space. There are large sculptures hanging in the entrance and we enjoy seeing how many things we can spot. If you take the steps up a flight of stairs, you’ll find a small art gallery.

The art gallery is the perfect size to catch the kids’ attention without overdoing it. I love the flowery decor of the building itself and seeing another angle of the hanging sculptures is also great. Afterwards, you can check out the fun children’s area of the library.

Great view of the hanging sculptures
Breathtaking!

Here are a few pictures of the children’s area.

The bus is always a hit for imaginary play!

Riffe Gallery

When we were walking to our car after the Nutcracker, I saw a sign for a free art exhibit. Free means we’re always in! It directed us to The Riffe Gallery by The Ohio Arts Council. The Ohio Arts Council is a state agency that funds and supports quality arts experiences to strengthen Ohio communities culturally, educationally, and economically.

You can cast your vote for your favorite. They then determine the fan-favorite. They have free programs that I am looking forward to experiencing.

These were cross-stitched!

Our favorite!

Columbus Museum of Art

Free to the public on Sundays, this is a wonderful spot to explore art as a family. Exhibits are always changing and the Wonder Room located in the lower level provides a creative outlet for kids and adults. They also offer special events throughout the year that you can participate in as a family!

Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum

Did you know the world’s largest collection of items related to comics and cartoons is on Ohio State Campus? There you’ll find original art, comic books, newspaper clippings and more.

The museum is free of cost and open Tuesday-Sunday from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m, with the exception of holidays and special events. Check out the visit us section on their website for more information such as parking.

Otherworld

Over 40 artists contributed to this 32,000 immersive art experience. Travel through over 40 rooms to uncover mysteries, see large-scaled interactive art, mixed reality playgrounds and hidden passageways.

Kids are permitted (16 and under must be supervised by an adult) and many children would find it fascinating. It’s a bit dark and there are some things that might be considered spooky so take that into consideration when determining if it is right for your little one.

Hours are subject to change but generally speaking Otherworld is open Thursday-Sunday. Tickets are available online or at the door.
