When It Doesn’t Spark Joy: Columbus Donation Locations

The idea of “Spring Cleaning” has been around for as long as I can remember. Well my friends, spring is upon us! Whether you’re moving, redecorating, a year-round “declutterer”, a KonMari participant, or a true blue spring cleaner, you need to know where you can take all that unwanted stuff. Please check with the company you’re donating to for details as donation hours, wish lists, lists of not accepted items, and drop off locations may change.

Columbus Donation Locations:

Clothing, Shoes & Accessories

  1. Star House is in need of basic clothing and shoes.
  2. Fairy Godmothers accepts gently-used prom dresses, shoes, and accessories.
  3. Out of the Closet Thrift Stores sell used clothing profiting the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.
  4. Amvets is always in need of clothing. They offer donation pick-up!
  5. Volunteers of America accepts clothing and shoes. You can request a pick-up as well.
  6. The Salvation Army has many drop-off locations, or you may schedule a free pick-up.
  7. National Kidney Services collects clothing, prom and wedding dresses, and shoes. Donation pick-up is an option.
  8. Dress for Success accepts interview and work-appropriate clothing, footwear, accessories, portfolios, and work totes.
  9. Joseph’s Coat of Central Ohio needs your gently-used, in-season clothing, shoes, and accessories.
  10. Moms2B collects gently-used, laundered clothing.
  11. Goodwill accepts any and all clothing items. Most locations have drive-throughs for a donation drop-off, or you may request a donation pick-up.
  12. Birthright of Columbus asks for maternity clothes.
  13. The Church for All People Free Store will take your gently-used clothing.
  14. Common Ground Free Store accepts in-season clothing, shoes, and accessories.
  15. One Dublin asks for gently-used clothing, shoes, coats, and accessories.
  16. The Westside Free Store is looking for donations of gently-used clothing and shoes.
  17. Create Happy Moments will take old Halloween costumes and make-up, even if they’re missing pieces.

Stuffed Animals, Toys & Diapers

  1. Amvets will take toys, children’s books and some sports equipment. They offer donation pick-up!
  2. The Salvation Army will accept stuffed animals, board games, bikes, books, and sporting equipment. You may schedule a free pick-up.
  3. National Kidney Services collects toys, books, and stuffed animals. Donation pick-up is an option.
  4. Moms2B collects gently-used books, board games, and early learning toys.
  5. Goodwill accepts any and all toys, sporting equipment, games, and books. Most locations have drive-throughs for a donation drop-off, or you may request a donation pick-up. 
  6. Common Ground Free Store accepts like-new toys.
  7. The Westside Free Store is looking for donations of gently-used toys and books.
  8. One Dublin asks for diapers, which may be in opened packages.
  9. The Columbus Diaper Coalition will take that partial pack of diapers your kiddo has outgrown.
  10. Bikes For All People is a place to takes bikes and bike parts in good condition. Call the store before dropping off items. You can also buy new and used bikes at the shop.
  11. Franklinton Cycle Works depends on donated bicycles. These bikes are used for the Earn-a-Bike program for the homeless and working poor, or to supplement shop expenses. Bike helmets, locks, lights, and bike accessories are also accepted.

Furniture & Appliances

  1. Amvets will take smaller furniture items and small appliances. They offer donation pick-up!
  2. Best Buy accepts some small appliances and will haul away some large appliances.
  3. Ohio Drop-off Recycling Centers take some large and small appliances.
  4. The Salvation Army accepts furniture, small and large appliances. You may schedule a free pick-up. 
  5. National Kidney Services collects furniture. Donation pick-up is an option.
  6. The Ohio Wildlife Center is in need of small and large appliances.
  7. Joseph’s Coat of Central Ohio needs your gently-used furniture, large and small appliances. They offer free pick-up when the donation meets certain qualifications.
  8. The Furniture Bank of Central Ohio accepts gently-used, no repairs needed furniture items, and some large and small appliances. You may schedule a pick-up.
  9. Common Ground Free Store accepts small appliances that are in good working order.
  10. The Westside Free Store is looking for donations of gently-used small appliances.
  11. Goodwill takes some furniture items and most appliances. If it cannot be kept for resale, it will be recycled responsibly. Most locations have drive-throughs for a donation drop-off, or you may request a donation pick-up.
  12. One Dublin asks for gently-used mattresses, frames, headboards, and box springs through their Bed Donation Program. A volunteer will arrange a pick up with you.

Household Items

  1. Star House is in need of a variety of household goods.

  9. The Furniture Bank of Central Ohio accepts gently-used towels, linens, dishes, cookware, and other household items. You may schedule a pick up.

Electronics & Office Supplies

  1. Best Buy will take a wide variety of electronics.
  2. Ohio Drop-off Recycling Centers accept lots of different electronics and office supplies.
  3. Amvets will take some electronics. They offer donation pick-up!

  6. National Kidney Services collects electronics, TVs, and computers. Donation pick-up is an option.
  7. Action Ohio is a resource for domestic abuse survivors that will take your used cell phones.
  8. The Furniture Bank of Central Ohio accepts TVs 32” or smaller. You may schedule a pick-up.
  9. Goodwill accepts most electronics and office equipment. If it cannot be kept for resale, Goodwill will recycle it responsibly. They do *not* accept TVs. Most locations have drive-throughs for a donation drop-off, or you may request a donation pick-up.
  10. Turning Point is in need of used cell phones.
  11. Accurate IT Services has a partnership with some local communities to provide free recycling of e-waste.
