My Favorite Food Bloggers and Recipes

2

A few months ago I wrote about Once a Month Meal Planning. One of our readers (Hi Lauren!) asked for links to some of my favorite recipes I use when meal planning and thus inspired this post!

Since having my second child last March, I’ve become a creature of habit when it comes to cooking. I just don’t have the time to scour through my cookbooks, magazines, saved recipes, bloggers, IG and Facebook each week to find new meals to plan and make. I’m sure most of you understand! Once I find a recipe that works for myself and family, I tend to make it often.

I’d love to help you if you’re struggling with meal planning and deciding what recipes to make, like I was. So today I’m sharing some of my favorite food bloggers I get a majority of my recipes from, as well as my favorite recipes on their site.

I hope you find some recipe inspiration as well as maybe a new family favorite.  If you have a recipe your family loves, I would love for you to share it with me in the comments at the bottom!

Pinch of Yum – I love the writer, Lindsay, and after reading her posts you’ll feel like she’s a good friend. Although I have many favorite recipes here, this Vegetarian Shephard’s Pie is a favorite! I use Trader Joes mashed potatoes (in the freezer section) to make this meal even quicker. If you want to add meat, you could. Although I will say my husband, who’s a meat lover, really liked it as written. For a picky child, you can separate out the veggies and potatoes on their plate before combining everything together.

Sally’s Baking Addiction – Although Sally’s mostly known for baking, she has some good “real food” recipes too.  Her Lightened-Up Creamy Chicken Noodle Soup is a favorite and bonus – it’s freezer friendly! I just add some broth or water when reheating on the stove. Since it’s a thicker soup, my toddler will eat it as-is, even though she isn’t usually a soup fan.

Two Peas & Their Pod – These Banana Blueberry Oatmeal Cups are so good and are the perfect breakfast for the morning rush. As a bonus, they’re freezer friendly and my toddler can easily help me make them! They’re even vegan if you follow that diet, but can be made non-vegan if you want. When I don’t have ripe bananas on hand, I swap the bananas for about 1/2 cup of unsweetened applesauce with delicious results!

Gimme Some Oven – Ali has created my hands-down favorite macaroni and cheese recipe!  Not only is it creamy, cheesy and delicious, but it’s all made in one pot!!  Words to my ears! It also makes a lot, so it’s great for large families, to have as left overs or share with neighbors. Try it and you will love it! Note – I usually use less than the 20 oz of cheese the recipe calls for and often don’t add the parmesan at the end. Another winner is her baked chicken breast recipe!

I Heart Nap Time – Jamielyn’s a former Ohio gal, which immediately makes me like her! Her recipes are family friendly and her cookbook has winner after winner recipe if you ever have the chance to check it out. This Easy Goulash recipe on her blog is fantastic. Once again, made in one pot (woo-hoo!) and most of the ingredients are shelf-stable, so I can buy them and keep on hand for dinner in a pinch!

Neighbor Food – Courtney’s a local blogger and mom of two! She’s one of the sweetest people I know and her photos are so drool-worthy you’ll want to make them all! One of my favorite recipes are her Frozen Mexican Breakfast Burritos, which are easy to make, adaptable to your own tastes and obviously freezer-friendly. Another favorite is her Slow Cooker Honey Nut Granola. My 3-year old loves making it with me! It’ll also make our home smell A-mazing! The recipe makes a lot, but not to fear it freezes well! I usually keep half in the refrigerator and the other half in the freezer for later. Granola + yogurt makes a great breakfast or snack, which my daughter and I love!

The Lean Green Bean – Lindsay is another Columbus mother and her site is a favorite place for me to find healthy recipes. These Chocolate Squash Muffins are a recipe that I make frequently. Note, I often substitute canned pumpkin for the squash when I’m short on time! The whole family, including my husband, love these and it’s a great way to get in some extra veggies! They freeze really well too!

I hope you find some recipe inspiration with the bloggers and recipes mentioned above!  Also, stay tuned here at Columbus Moms Blog where I’m planning to write a post on my favorite “non-recipe” meal ideas in the coming months!
