Simple Ways to Spring Your Wardrobe Forward

1

I don’t care what the calendar says, spring begins on March 1, if only in my heart. With the unofficial change in seasons, it’s also time to think about transitioning your wardrobe for milder temps.

I joined a style challenge over on The Mom Edit that helped me remix my wardrobe in unexpected ways, and I loved creating totally “new” looks with pieces I already own. I’ve been on a weight-loss journey for a few months, so it’s nice to work with clothes I have, rather than invest in something that won’t fit well in a month. It’s also fun to flex my creative fashion muscles, not to mention all the ideas I’ve gotten from the other fashionable mamas in the challenge.

So, let’s take a look at at the outfits from the style challenge and beyond, where you might wear them, and style tips for recreating.

Sporty Spice, workday nice
For this look, we had to style our workout clothes as a “real” outfit. I’d been dying to dress up a pair of track pants, so I just ran with it (#momjokes)! I love this look because it fits my office dress code, and I’m still ready to hit the gym afterward.

Style tip: If you want to kick your normal athleisure up a notch for work, stick with a neutral or monochromatic color palette. I love navy, which helped me look and feel comfortable and confident, even though I was trying something new.

Rain, Rain, go away…if you don’t, I’ll still slay
Even my most enchanted spring dreams involve rain, but I’m not about to let that get my style all soggy. Instead, I’m always on the lookout for stylish rainwear. The brighter, the better! I found this floral graffiti trench coat a few years ago and it’s still farmer’s market fresh!

Style tip: I like to balance a bright jacket or bold pattern with a solid color outfit. Or, if my outfit is bold enough, I’ll opt for a classic jacket, with maybe a few special details. Again, the key is that you don’t need to throw your whole bag of tricks into any one outfit!

Playdate or date night, done right
Let’s be real, you already have on leggings. Like, right now, as you’re reading this. You probably think life can’t get much better, then I drape a silky robe/kimono on you. Nice, right? It’s such an easy way to spring forward into your seasonal wardrobe without a ton of effort. Change into your favorite jeans and accessories and run out the door before your sitter has a change of heart.

Style tip: Don’t be afraid to wear something more tailored or form fitting under the kimono. A bodysuit or tank makes a perfect pairing with a long, billowy kimono.

Tiarra
Tiarra dreams of living in the Caribbean some day, but Central Ohio is the next best thing! She lives in Newark with her husband, daughter (5), and son (2) and is a proud Ohio University alum (go Bobcats!). Don't worry, she's lived in Central Ohio most of her life, so she has plenty of love for the Buckeyes. Tiarra has worked in communications for the last four years; when she’s not at work, you'll probably find her cooking, traveling, or running around with her family. She collects cookbooks, but finds most of her inspiration from meals around town or signature dishes from her travels. New Orleans is her favorite new destination, so she's looking forward to trying her hand at po'boys and beignets. Tiarra also volunteers at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio and her church's children's ministry.
