The Imagination Library

How would you like to have a free book arrive in your mailbox every month? Sounds too good to be true, right?! It’s not. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library provides a free book a month to over 1 million children across the world.

Founded by Dolly Parton in honor of her father, Imagination Library seeks to inspire the love of reading in kids. Having started in the United States, their mission has since spread to the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada. Books are available in standard form, braille and audio, allowing as many kids as possible to access these fabulous books.

The program is geared toward children ages 0-5. Books are strategically picked based on developmental needs of particular ages.

The program is made possible through various sponsors. Because of this, there are stipulations for qualification of the Imagination Library. You are able to check the availability of the program in your area. Not everyone qualifies as it depends on sponsorship in your area. The first time I applied, I did not qualify. However, my parents’ zip code qualifies. So my Mom (or Gigi as my daughter calls her) receives Quinn’s monthly book in the mail and brings it to her as a special gift! So if you don’t initially qualify, don’t be afraid to suggest that relatives or friends sign up as a gift to your child.

Reading with your child is one of the most important things you can do with them. There are so many resources out there to help not only our children learn but to help us as parents learn to equip them.

Books have the power to transport kids to another place, to teach them the power of imagination and learning. There is no such thing as too many books! We have books in multiple places of every room in our house and I love that our daughter plays with books and asking for us to read to her!
