Ideas for Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in Columbus

St. Patrick’s Day is kind of like the kickoff to spring! People are ready to put winter behind them and get out their spring colors and go outside! There is so much to do around the city with your kids, as well as some adult-only events! This year the holiday falls on a Sunday, but many events will occur the week before. Get your jiggin’ shoes on, and get ready to wear your green!

St. Patrick’s Day Activities in Columbus

March 8, 2024

Proclamation Day: There is a Mass at 8:30 am at St. Christopher Church at 1420 Grandview Ave. This will be followed by a breakfast at Byrne’s Pub at 1248 W. Third Ave Grandview. Next, they will gather in Columbus City Hall Council Chamber where the Mayor proclaims March 17th St. Patrick’s Day. Then they all march to Broad & High and paint shamrocks on all four corners and in the middle. The proclamation ceremony begins promptly at 11 am.

Pancake Breakfast: Dublin, Ohio: 7:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. | Before the parade, be sure to hit up the pancake breakfast at Sells Middle School. Each year, they hold a breakfast to precede the parade. There is an inflation celebration afterward at Graeter’s just before the parade starts.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade Party: Doors open at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday | Fadó Pub and Kitchen is proud to bring Dublin live music, entertainment, and more! $20 dollar cover. This will also take place on March 17, 2023. Bridge Park will be the place to be this year!

Inflation Celebration: 9:00 a.m. at Graeter’s on Frantz Road | Head to Graeter’s Ice Cream on Frantz Road at 9:00 a.m. to see giant helium balloons inflate. Balloon artists will make Irish-themed hats and props for children as they wait for the balloons to fill.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade: Dublin, Ohio: 11:00 a.m. | This year, Dublin will hold their famous St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, March 9, 2024. Your kids will be ready to collect candy and see lots of bands and entertainment! Check out historic Dublin after the parade and enjoy lunch at the many famous Irish pubs.

“Time to Paddy!” St. Patrick’s Day Run:

Join us for the annual Time to Paddy 5k/10k and Lucky 13.1 Half Marathon! A St. Patrick-themed run that is perfect for the whole family.
The fun includes great swag (designer shirt, custom medal), chip-timing, live results and awards, free photos, a “biggest team” contest, a kids’ dash, great post-race food, and plenty of fun! Grab your friends and family, you are not going to want to miss this one!

St. Patrick’s Day Party: Flannagan’s in Dublin: This is Ohio’s largest all-day St. Patrick’s Day party. Lots of great bands will be providing musical entertainment. Doors open at 8 a.m. for adults 21 and over.

Leprechaun Hat Cake Decorating: Leprechaun Hat Cake Decorating (Adult and Child) $79/couple from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m.

Try your luck decorating a lucky leprechaun hat. You and a youngster (6-year-olds and older) will decorate a 6-inch layer cake. A decorating kit is included in the cost of this event for you to take home. An intermediate decorating kit is available for purchase at the time of registration for you to take home at the end of the event.

Irish Family Reunion: Big Party every year! Bring your own food and book your table to watch many Irish performers and bands. Tickets and tables are available now for purchase during the Sunday meetings or by contacting Operations Manager Irene Kenney at the Club Office. Ticket prices remain the same this year with a table of 10 now available for $140. It will follow the parade on St. Patrick’s Day like normal!

St. Patrick’s Day Parade: Downtown Columbus: The annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Columbus is sponsored by the Shamrock Club of Columbus. The day will begin with a Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral at 9:30 a.m. The annual Saint Patrick’s Day Parade sponsored by the Shamrock Club of Columbus steps off from Washington Blvd. & Broad Street at 11:30 and ends at the Greater Columbus Convention Center for the Irish Family Reunion.

Celtic Cocktail Trail: Historic Dublin: Twelve Dublin bars and restaurants have crafted a cocktail specifically for the Celtic Trail. You will earn a stamp at each spot and some restaurants include Fado, Hen Quarter, Vaso, Mezzo, J. Lui, The Ram Brewery and many more!

Maureen Ingham
Maureen Ingham has enjoyed living in the great city of Columbus for nearly 13 years! Originally from Canton, Ohio, Maureen attended Ohio University and will always be a bobcat at heart! After completing her education degree in Athens, she made her way to The Ohio State University to obtain a Masters degree in Special Education. She fell in love with Columbus then and convinced her now husband to join her in this awesome city! She taught 5th grade for 6 years, before deciding to stay home to raise two beautiful girls. Their family has recently moved to Worthington with their two girls and are excited to plant their roots here! Their first daughter, Maeve is 6 and her sister, Reese will soon be 5 years old. They welcomed a son, Miles in March 2020. Maureen has been with The Columbus Moms Blog since the beginning and now enjoys working on editing and events for the blog. She also works as a Postpartum Doula with her sister at a company called Together Wee Grow. They provide night nursing services, as well as daytime support to local families and babies in Columbus. It is a wonderful job to work along her sister and help families with their precious little ones in a vulnerable time period. In between the night shifts, sweeping up crumbs, exploring Columbus, and getting kids to where they need to be, Maureen enjoys working out, trying new recipes and restaurants, traveling, spending time with family, being crafty and trying to help others whenever she can! Maureen has many Columbus favorites. Her go-to restaurant is Third and Hollywood, she enjoys a sweet treat at Sassafrass Bakery or Fox in the Snow, a slice of pizza at Dewey's Pizza and a warm cup of joe at Highline Coffee. A perfect Saturday involves an outdoor activity with her family and trying a new restaurant when they can! She is excited to be a part of an excellent team here at Columbus Moms blog and hopes to be able to inspire mothers that small acts of kindness go a long way in raising their kids and the city they live in!
