10 Reasons Why Your Hairstylist Really Is Your Best Friend

I didn’t fully appreciate my hair styling appointments until after I had kids.  Before kids, getting my hair cut was just something I had to do, another thing on my to-do list, and one more expense.

Since having kids, my hair appointments have become my most coveted times.

I exclusively breastfed my babies, so “me time” just wasn’t a thing.  The first time I spent time away from the house and my baby, that didn’t involve going to work or the grocery store, was to go to the hair salon.  I experienced getting my hair done in a whole new way:

  • Two hours without a baby attached to me.
  • Two hours of uninterrupted adult conversation.
  • Two hours of nobody asking (demanding) me to do anything.
  • Two hours of pampering.

What mom doesn’t leave the salon feeling like a brand new woman?

10 Reasons Why Your Hairstylist Really Is Your Best Friend

First and foremost, she makes you look and feel amazing.  It’s remarkable what a fresh hairstyle will do to your confidence.

You really can tell her ANYTHING.  I often wonder if she has a secret degree in psychology.  I used to wince at the cost of a good hairstylist.  Now I realize what a bargain it is compared to 2 hours of therapy.

If I weren’t performing, I’d be a beauty editor or a therapist. I love creativity, but I also love to help others. My mother was a hairstylist, and they listen to everyone’s problems like a beauty therapist!

Beyonce Knowles

When you tell her your “worst parent ever” story, she not only empathizes, she tries to top it.

She tells you the truth.  Don’t ask her if something makes you look fat if you really don’t want to know the answer.  She’ll never let you walk out of her salon with a bad hairstyle or color.

She can fix anything.  If you ever tried to touch up your roots or trim your bangs in between sessions, she can fix all your messes, and she won’t call you out.

She makes sacrifices for you:

  • She is on her feet all day long, usually in really cute shoes, giving herself back problems.
  • She breathes in toxic fumes all day long.  If she’s a really good stylist, she will diffuse essential oils in her salon to neutralize the toxic fumes.
  • She doesn’t bat an eye when you come into her salon looking like death warmed over because you have been sick all week.  Not wanting to forfeit your coveted appointment time, you reluctantly offer to reschedule.  She says absolutely not and welcomes you with open arms!  After all, she has already been exposed to anything and everything.  Again, if she’s a really good stylist, she will diffuse essential oils to kill all those yucky germs.

She knows everyone and all the gossip.  Like seriously, EVERYONE.  But she is never disrespectful or gossipy.

She is your own personal Rolodex (is that even a thing anymore?).  Because she knows everyone, she can make trusted referrals to any service you would ever need.

The next time you are at the salon, remember to give your hairstylist an extra dose of love and gratitude.
