A Sweet Birthday with Hudsonville Ice Cream

Thank you to Hudsonville Ice Cream for sponsoring this post.

In my family, birthdays are a big deal. My children spend months counting down to their special day building anticipation and creating excitement for a magical celebration. Fortunately, they don’t have elaborate expectations. Rather, they truly enjoy a fun theme, a special dessert and time amongst family and friends. Ok, and they definitely love receiving gifts!

Ages increase and themes change but an important staple at all of our family parties is the sweet treat! Whether it’s cookies, cupcakes or cake, the party is not complete without ice cream! When I had an opportunity to have Hudsonville Ice Cream at my son’s 6th birthday celebration, we decided to make it the main event. An ice cream themed birthday party with ice cream as the celebratory treat! A simple idea to create a memorable birthday experience for my son while also making planning easy for me—an all around win! Plus, why settle for cake when everyone knows that ice cream is the best part!

It just so happened that the date we chose to host his party was the hottest weekend of the year. This didn’t stop us one bit. In fact, I think it made the guests even more anxious to enjoy a scoop of ice cream to cool off. The kids could choose between Mint Chocolate Chip and Triple Peanut Butter Cup as selected by the birthday boy himself. When the time came for ice cream, they literally came running. Their eyes lit up at the sight of the delicious treats and they scarfed the ice cream down faster than it could melt. The kids enjoyed the rich and creamy treat while I got to actually be present and enjoy the celebration.

After lots of outdoor play and multiple helpings of ice cream, the party concluded. Three cheers for low key birthday parties that pack a big punch of excitement and fun for the guests! When my son gave me a tight hug, flashed a big smile and gave me an enthusiastic “thank you!” I knew he was pleased with his celebration and my mama heart was full.

While the party was a success, my favorite part of the day might have just been after my children were fast asleep that evening. I was relaxing in the living room when my husband came in carrying the remaining ice cream cartons and two spoons. We rewarded ourselves for a birthday party well done by snuggling on the couch with a movie and enjoying the rest of the delicious ice cream. We continued to make sweet memories over Hudsonville Ice Cream long after the birthday party finished. It was the perfect ending to a special day!

Thank you to Hudsonville Ice Cream for their part in making my son’s birthday celebration so special. The Midwest based creamery has been helping make all of life’s special moments sweeter since 1926. I can say without reservation that my family won’t soon forget the love and fun we had while sharing Hudsonville Ice Cream.

Emily
Emily Bice grew up in a small, Ohio farming community west of Columbus. It wasn't until she met her college sweetheart and future husband that her mind was opened to living elsewhere. They say love makes you do crazy things which lead Emily and her Texan husband to living in Central America for two years. After much adventure and traveling, she ended up back in Columbus where the real adventure began: motherhood. She is the mom of two young boys and an infant daughter and wife to the ultimate man's man. She's living her dream as a stay at home mom but will be the first to admit that she is far from having it all figured out. Her hardest parenting moments are typically around nap time and bedtime and after particularly rough episodes she can be found online shopping. In a former chapter of life, Emily worked in non-profit raising funds and awareness for important causes. Today, she spends her time playing and snuggling with her three children, traveling to and from her husband's lacrosse company's events and socializing with friends and family. When she has any free time, she usually wastes it trying to figure out what to do.
