Hello there August! Summer isn’t over yet! Although there are many back-to-school events this month, we still have plenty of summer events to enjoy and places to explore.

The word of the month is FESTIVAL! There are numerous church festivals and outdoor events to put on your calendar this month.

Maybe you have a “staycation” planned for the Month of August. If so, look here!

Events: August 1-6

August 1: Wild Story Time Turtles: 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. at Ohio Wildlife Center | Story time, followed by a craft to coordinate with the book! $5 per person and includes a visit with an animal ambassador and a walk around the grounds.

August 1: Tales for Tails Reading Program: 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at CHA Animal Shelter | Every Wednesday from June 13th to August 8th, children, ages 8-12, are invited to visit the shelter and sit outside of a cat or dog’s kennel and read to them. All reading levels are encouraged to participate!

August 1-12: UrinetownShowtimes Wednesday-Sundays during this two week time period at The Columbus Children’s Theater | Get your tickets today for a show that is set in a dystopian future in a city plagued with a terrible water shortage, the government now regulates one of our most guarded commodities: toilets!

August 1: Gahanna Night Out: 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. in Gahanna | Get to know your Gahanna police officers while enjoying a night of live music, entertainment and family fun-filled activities at Creekside Plaza!

August 1- 5: The Ohio State Fair: Times vary each day at The Ohio Expo Center | Rides, Concerts, Unique Food and Vendors, a tradition you won’t want to miss! See their website for exact times of events. 

August 1: Live Music at Dewey’s : 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.  | Come enjoy music each Wednesday with up and coming artists! Acoustic music on Friday nights too! 

August 2: Paws in the Plaza: 4:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at Creekside Gahanna | Monthly event scheduled for the first Thursday of the month from April through October. All animal related vendors.

August 2: Nightlife 614: Showing the Devil Wears Prada at Genoa Park! Food trucks, craft beer and great view of the city! 

August 3: Yoga on the Square: 8:30 a.m.- 9:30 a.m. at Easton | Designed for the first-timer and mainstream fitness fan, this introductory yoga class focuses on strength, conditioning and flexibility. Led by Life Time Fitness instructors, it’s free and open to the public, ages 13 and older.

August 3: Commons for Kids: 10:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. | Friday morning focus is officially on the kids of Columbus. Give the carousel a whirl or hit the bounce houses free of charge. There is something for kids of all ages with performances, Imagination Playground, crafts and games.

August 3- August 5 : St. James Brats and Crafts Festival: 4:00 p.m-9:00 p.m. on Friday, Noon to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday and Noon to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday in Hilliard | Event includes live polka style music and dancing, authentic and homemade German table fare, beer wagon, arts and crafts fair and children’s games. 

August 3- August 5: Dublin Irish Festival: Gates open at 4 p.m. on Friday until midnight. Saturday is 11 a.m.- midnight and Sunday is 11 a.m.- 9:00 p.m. in Dublin | For 30 years, the first weekend in August has been reserved for what is now the largest three-day Irish Festival on the planet! 

August 3: Jazoo Sinatra and Friends at The Columbus Zoo : 6:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. | Concert begins at 8:00 p.m. 

August 3- August 5: Back to School Tax-Free Shopping Days | Enjoy the Ohio Sales Tax Holiday! Happy shopping! 

August 4: Fam Jam at the Columbus Commons: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. | Join Mayor Ginther and Franklin County Children Services at a free, family enrichment festival at the Columbus Commons. FamJam will bring families together with community resources, vendors and information tables, as well as tons of fun and entertainment.

August 4: Back to School Expo: 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at Easton Town Center | Send the kids back to school in style! Exhibitors will be on hand to provide resources and tips. Enjoy various entertainment on the event stage, enter to win giveaways, and much more, all during Ohio Sales Tax-Free Holiday weekend. 

August 4: The Turtle Lady: 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Franklin Park Conservatory | Celebrate the Circle of Life week in The Children’s Garden by learning about the turtle life cycle! The Turtle Lady brings her reptile friends to meet and greet with visitors.

August 4: Pickerington Kidsfest: 1:00 p.m.- 5;00 p.m. at Pickerington Area Soccer Association | Lots of family fun and the first 2,000 kids receive a free pass to Skate Zone 71! 

August 4: Finding Dory: Movies at the Pool: 8:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. | The Marysville Municipal Pool will play Finding Dory at Dusk. Bring a blanket or low stadium chair. The runtime is 1 hour 40 minutes. 

August 5: Worthington Concerts on the Green: 7:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m. on the Green | Enjoy The Ohio State Alumni Band! 

August 7: Movies by Moonlight: Movie begins at dusk until 10:30 p.m. | Enjoy Wonder outside under the stars!  


Events: August 8-13

August 8- August 12: Farm Days: Little Seeds, Big Tractors: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at COSI | Learn where your food comes from by meeting local farmers and climb aboard tractors and even a combine. You can also test your driving skills on a pedal tractor course and even milk COSI’s fiberglass cow, Daisy. 

August 8: Taste of Hilliard: 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. in Hilliard | This year’s event will feature more than 25 participating restaurants, so there is sure to be something for everyone. $15 for adults and $5 for children under 10. 

August 8: Mystery Night Out in Powell: 6:30 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. | Clues will be located throughout downtown Powell and lead participants back to Village Green Park for an evening of entertainment, food, and raffle prizes!

August 9: Pre-K Story Time at Scioto Audobon: 10:00 a.m. -10:30 a.m. | A volunteer will read a nature-based story and then play in the Forest room after! Storytime is most Thursdays and Saturdays.

August 9-11: Ohio Balloon Fest:5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. on Thursday, 2:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at The Union County Airport | Hot Air Balloons, Kidz City (all you can jump), performances by ZZ Top and Lo Cash and so much more!

August 9: Easter Seals Touch a Truck: 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Easter Seals | Fire trucks, police cars, construction trucks, bounce houses and snacks. Admission is free to explore vehicles but tickets to benefit the Easter Seals program will be sold for bounce houses and snacks. Sensitive time is from 6-6:30 p.m. 

August 9: COSI after Dark: 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. at COSI | Adult only time at COSI with the theme of Time Travel! 

August 10: Franklin County Touch a Truck: 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at Franklin County Engineer Office | Come check out their display of trucks! 

August 10: Creekside Live: 6:00 p.m. at Creekside in Gahanna | The event brings the community together celebrating the heart of Gahanna, the Creekside District. Come early and enjoy one of the many local restaurants. Onsite beverage sales available supported by the Gahanna Parks & Recreation Foundation.

August 10-11: St. Brendan Parish Festival: 6:00 p.m.-Midnight in Hilliard | Festival Raffle, Silent Auction, Festival Food, kids games, and rides!  

August 10: Friday Night Float: 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at Sharon Woods | Take a canoe ride and enjoy the water at sunset!

August 11: National Bowling Day at Ten Pin Alley: 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. | Ten Pin Alley in Hilliard is hosting an event to celebrate National Bowling Day. Enjoy one free bowling game plus shoes and special breakfast items available! Come celebrate the day!   

August 11: PBJ and Jazz at Topiary Park: 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. | Concerts are free and follow family story time at 11 a.m. in the main branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library. Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic and a blanket. The noon concert will conclude with a hands-on art activity, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., presented by the Columbus Museum of Art.

August 11: Super Hero Day: 11:00 am.-4:00 p.m. at Easton | Join us in Fenlon Square where you can unleash your superpowers and come dressed as your favorite superhero, or even better, invent one! Enjoy a day of activities, including face painting, live music by Mousetrap, surprise costumed characters, and more!

August 11-12: Festival Latino 2017: 11:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. at Genoa Park | Free family festival!

August 11: Shark Day at Highlands Pool: 12:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m. at Highland Park Aquatic Center in Westerville | A shark at the pool means it is time to party. The day will include games every hour, face painting, water balloon toss, WIBIT inflatable obstacle course and a strong possibility of SHARKNADO in the weather forecast.

August 11: Summer in the 614: 4:00 – 8:30 p.m. in Worthington Village Green | Sit on the grass and enjoy local musicians, family activities, games, food vendors, and much more! Music and activities begin at 4. 

August 11: Columbus Crew Game: 7:30 p.m. at Columbus Crew Stadium | A fun experience with your family, come cheer on The Crew!  

August 11: Flicks After Dark: 8:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. at Hilliard Municipal Park | Showing Little Giants with trivia starting at 8. 

August 12: Family Fun with The Columbus Zoo2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Franklin Park Conservatory | Come out and see some friendly animals from the zoo! The presentation is included with admission.

August 12: Worthington Concerts on the Green: 7:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at The Worthington Green | Grab a blanket and join in the fun for a relaxing night of music on the green!

August 14: Movie by Moonlight: 8:00 p.m.-10:30 p.m. at Easton | Showing Sherlock Gnomes tonight!  Starts at dusk. 

August 16: Jay Z and Beyonce: 7:00 p.m. at Ohio Stadium | Get your tickets today! 

August 17-18: Columbus Food Truck Festival: 11:00 a.m.- 11:00 p.m. at The Scioto Mile | 65 food vendors, two stages with live music and lots of entertainment! 

August 17 – 18: St. Andrew’s Parish Festival: 5:00 p.m.- Midnight on Friday and Saturday | Inflatables, Bingo, Casino, Italian subs, and fun for the family! 

August 17: Family Outdoor Adventure Night | 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. in Westerville | They will cook a meal over a fire, hike, play in the woods and learn how to safely climb trees as we enjoy an evening outdoors.

August 17: Blues and Brews: 6:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. in Marysville | Music, Food, and Family fun with music by HooDoo Soul Band!

August 18: Lynd Peach Fest 2018: 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Lynd Fruit Farm  | Free wagon rides, kids crafts and games, watercolor class (charge), and fresh peach pie! 

August 18: Polaris Touch a Truck: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. | Sunny 95, Mr. Sunny, and all of your favorite BIG Trucks will be at Polaris Fashion Place! There will be trucks of all sizes – Fire trucks, dump trucks, even a pink truck, classic cruisin’ trucks and more will be there! Bring the whole family for cool trucks, cold treats, prizes, and fun!

August 18: CrestFest 2018: 12:00 p.m. -9:00 p.m. in Clintonville | 9th annual Street Party in Clintonville!

August 23-25: St. Joan of Arc Festival: 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m on Thursday and 6:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday in Powell, Ohio | Food, games, rides, raffles, and summer fun! Be sure to check their website for more information! 

August 24: 4th Friday in Westerville: 6:00 pm.-9:00 p.m | A night full of fun for the family in Uptown Westerville. Shops open until 9!

August 24: Craft Brew at the Zoo: 6:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m. at The Columbus Zoo | 21 and older event- beer, live entertainment, and food. See Uncle Kracker perform! 

August 25: Yoga at the Market: 8:00 a.m. in Worthington | Free class and a great way to start your morning! 

August 25: Columbus Summer Wine Festival: 12:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. at The Columbus Commons | The day-long celebration will also feature artisan exhibits, food trucks, specialty food items, and live musical entertainment. The event promises to provide a little bit of something for everyone in a location that is festival-friendly!

August 25-26: Metro Park Climbing Festival: 12:00 p.m. at Scioto Audubon Metro Park | Enjoy a day of climbing clinics and end the day with a family friendly movie, Goonies. 

August 25: Grandview Hop: 5:00 p.m- 9:00 p.m. in Grandview | Summertime street market and evening stroll! Restaurants and shops open late! 

August 25: Movie Series: Lego Batman : 8:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. at Sharon Woods | Showing Lego Batman tonight!

Maureen Ingham
Maureen Ingham has enjoyed living in the great city of Columbus for nearly 13 years! Originally from Canton, Ohio, Maureen attended Ohio University and will always be a bobcat at heart! After completing her education degree in Athens, she made her way to The Ohio State University to obtain a Masters degree in Special Education. She fell in love with Columbus then and convinced her now husband to join her in this awesome city! She taught 5th grade for 6 years, before deciding to stay home to raise two beautiful girls. Their family has recently moved to Worthington with their two girls and are excited to plant their roots here! Their first daughter, Maeve is 6 and her sister, Reese will soon be 5 years old. They welcomed a son, Miles in March 2020. Maureen has been with The Columbus Moms Blog since the beginning and now enjoys working on editing and events for the blog. She also works as a Postpartum Doula with her sister at a company called Together Wee Grow. They provide night nursing services, as well as daytime support to local families and babies in Columbus. It is a wonderful job to work along her sister and help families with their precious little ones in a vulnerable time period. In between the night shifts, sweeping up crumbs, exploring Columbus, and getting kids to where they need to be, Maureen enjoys working out, trying new recipes and restaurants, traveling, spending time with family, being crafty and trying to help others whenever she can! Maureen has many Columbus favorites. Her go-to restaurant is Third and Hollywood, she enjoys a sweet treat at Sassafrass Bakery or Fox in the Snow, a slice of pizza at Dewey's Pizza and a warm cup of joe at Highline Coffee. A perfect Saturday involves an outdoor activity with her family and trying a new restaurant when they can! She is excited to be a part of an excellent team here at Columbus Moms blog and hopes to be able to inspire mothers that small acts of kindness go a long way in raising their kids and the city they live in!
