8 Lessons My Parents Taught Me That I’ll Pass On To My Children

0

Until you have your own children, you don’t realize that it takes a lot of love, patience, perseverance, sacrifice, and dedication. I would not be the parent that I am without the example of my own parents, and for that I am thankful. There are not enough words to describe how much I appreciate the time and effort they put into molding and shaping me into the person I am today. This has significantly influenced my parenting style and beliefs that both my husband and I share in raising our boys. I could probably write a book about the lessons my parents taught me, but in an effort to save time and space, here are the top 8 things my parents taught me that I will never forget:

Other people matter.

As kids, we are always taught to treat others the way you want to be treated. In addition, regardless of another person’s circumstance, they too are valuable.

Family is everything.

My parents showed me that family is one constant element that is important and should never be taken for granted. Family will love you no matter what. Family is forever.

The value of hard work.

If you really want something, you have to work hard to get. Regardless, of how long it takes put in the work and give it your all and never quit.

Never compare yourself to others.

Comparing yourself to others will only hinder you from being who you were destined to be.

I am loved.

I know, without a shadow of a doubt, that my parents love me. Just saying “I love you” doesn’t have as much of a profound effect unless you show it– love needs to be felt and not just said.

Use your time wisely.

Time waits for no one and what I choose to do with it, is a reflection of who I am.

Education.

Education is everything and it can take you anywhere.

Save money for a rainy day.

It is important to always set money aside for an emergency.

What important lessons did you learn from your parents?
