Making Moments Sweeter This Valentine’s Day

Thank you to Hudsonville Ice Cream for making this post possible with their delicious ice cream!

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, it’s a great opportunity to break from the usual routine and do something special or memorable with your family. In our house, the older kids are already brainstorming ideas for their Valentine boxes for school, I am researching the best games for their class parties, and my husband is getting creative in planning our date night in. But one of our favorite family traditions on Valentine’s Day is indulging in a sweet treat.

On a recent trip to our local Meijer, we discovered Hudsonville Ice Cream. They have a variety of yummy flavors to pick from, including dairy-free options for those with dietary restrictions. My kids were thrilled to pick a couple of their favorite classic flavors like chocolate and creamery blend vanilla, as well as their black cherry flavor that we had not tried. I love watching their eyes light up as they scan the colorful freezer, their concentration as they make the important decision of which flavors they want to try, and the excitement as we get home and dip into that sweet, creamy goodness.

Ice cream has always been a way to make moments sweeter in our family. Life with little ones seems to be passing by so quickly. In the blink of an eye, my first baby is now six years old navigating a more independent life as a big first grader, my rambunctious middle child is busy forming friendships and keeping her preschool teachers on their toes, and my baby boy is walking and developing new skills each day. They have already achieved so many milestones in their short time, and it’s so important to me as a parent to try and cherish all of these special moments. Ice cream has become our makeshift “pause button” to help us hang on to those moments just a little bit longer. It’s a gentle reminder for us to slow down and appreciate our blessings.

So this Valentine’s Day, we will be sharing the love by sharing scoops of our favorite treat. The kids already have their heart set on picking up another round of Hudsonville Ice Cream, and I can’t wait to see what flavors they pick this time! This simple and delicious dessert will give us the reminder we need to slow down after a busy day of school celebrations. It will also allow me to have more time to with them to talk about their memories of the day instead of slaving over a complicated dessert recipe. And after all, it is our favorite way to make moments sweeter.
